Hello!  Jackie here:

The more I travel, the more I WANT.  In my early years I was a frustrated armchair traveller, reading about others’ worldwide travels;dangerous adventures, great scenery – from arid and bare to gobsmackingly amazing!  Also great characters they had met…

Driving through Europe I‘ve enjoyed lovely new scenery and relished the wealth of well-preserved ancient buildings–by no means all in Rome, Pompeii, Knossos or Paris.  You’d be amazed by the wealth of historic gems found in tiny villages.

One of the treats of ‘Abroad’ is eating out:  Different food and enthusiastic diners.  Also, staying in B&B’s you meet local people – our greatest reward.  We have so often found huge warmth and generosity. You will read of two birthday parties (with presents) held for me; one just two days after arriving at our B&B in Basilicata; the other by our ‘Italian family’ in Pompeii…  I was bowled over each time.

Hi, I’m Graham

I suppose we could say we started in earnest to drive outside of Britain in 2001.  It was our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.  Jackie had booked a few stops in advance, but it still left us with beds to find once we were there.  We both felt liberated by it: it was easee-peasee.

Once retirement came along, the opportunity to take a three month tour of France and Italy was irresistible.  I wanted to  research  for a new crime book I had been planning, and we both wanted to get an in-depth flavour of one particular area.

Jackie even indulged me by planning as many mountainous routes as possible.  I love driving in, up, down and around mountains – and Italy has a plethora.  Around each bend there is a new photo opportunity.  Enjoy!
